Diwali – Festival of Lights

India, it is a celebration of life. Festivals, fiestas, happenings & events. This festival of life is a never ending, from times immortal. The Indian festivals imbibe & portray the rich & diverse cultures of traditions, spirituality, sounds, lights & good vibrations.

Some of the important Indian festivals, the dates of which are not fixed & they are based on Lunar calendar & change each year. The seasonality though remains the same.

1. Diwali – Festival of Lights 🪔 (Winters)

Celebrated across India, Diwali an evening festival illuminates homes, temples and streets with lamps, candles and colourful decorations. The festival symbolises the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil.


2. Holi – Festival of Colours 🌈 (Spring)

One of India’s most joyful day celebrations, Holi fills the streets with vibrant colours, music, dancing and festive gatherings.

3. Durga Puja – West Bengal 🌺 (Autumn) 

A grand celebration honouring Goddess Durga, Durga Puja transforms Kolkata into a magnificent showcase of artistic pandals, elaborate idols, music, rituals and cultural performances.


4. Pushkar Camel Fair – Rajasthan 🐪 (Winters)

Held in the desert town of Pushkar, this legendary fair combines traditional camel and livestock trading with folk music, colourful costumes, competitions and cultural festivities.


Onam – Kerala
5. Onam – Kerala 🌸 (Monsoons)

Kerala’s harvest festival is celebrated with elaborate floral decorations, traditional feasts known as Onam Sadya, boat races, music and dance. It offers a wonderful glimpse into the cultural heritage of South India.


6. Navratri & Dussehra – Gujarat & North India 🕺(Autumn)

Nine nights of devotion and celebration culminate in Dussehra. Gujarat is famous for its energetic Garba and Dandiya Raas, while cities such as Mysore and Varanasi offer distinctive regional traditions.

7. Ganesh Chaturthi – Maharashtra 🐘(Monsoons)

Mumbai comes alive with magnificent images of Lord Ganesha, devotional music, processions and community celebrations. The festival concludes with the spectacular immersion of the idols.

8. Mysuru Dasara – Karnataka 👑 (Autumn)

A royal celebration with centuries of history, Mysuru Dasara is famed for its illuminated palace, cultural performances, traditional processions and the magnificent Jumbo Savari.


9. Bihu – Assam 🌾 (January, April & October)

Assam’s most important festival celebrates the agricultural cycle and Assamese culture through traditional dance, music, feasting and community gatherings.


10. Hornbill Festival – Nagaland 🎶 (December)

Known as the “Festival of Festivals,” Hornbill brings together the diverse tribal communities of Nagaland. Traditional dances, music, crafts, cuisine and indigenous cultural performances make it one of Northeast India’s most distinctive celebrations.
