During the winter months, snow leopards move to lower valleys in search of prey, making this one of the most rewarding seasons to explore their natural habitat. Accompanied by experienced local trackers and naturalists, explore the Rumbak and Husing Valleys, using spotting scopes and expert knowledge to search the rugged mountain slopes for this magnificent predator.

Best Time to Travel
Winter months, particularly January to March, offer the best opportunity to search for snow leopards in the lower valleys of Ladakh. Sightings are never guaranteed and depend on weather, animal movement, terrain, patience and luck.

This is an adventure wildlife expedition in a high-altitude environment. The itinerary may be adjusted according to weather, road conditions, wildlife movement and local circumstances. Your journey unfolds one day at a time through carefully planned destinations, meaningful cultural encounters, and seamless travel arrangements. While this itinerary provides a suggested route, every journey is fully customizable and can be tailored to match your interests, preferred pace, travel style, and schedule.
Arrive in Leh, the gateway to the high Himalayas, and transfer to your hotel. With Leh situated at approximately 11,500 ft, the day is reserved for rest and acclimatization.
If conditions permit, enjoy a gentle evening stroll through Leh’s local market.

Begin with a relaxed visit to Shanti Stupa and Leh Palace, enjoying panoramic views of the town and surrounding mountains.
The afternoon is kept free for rest and acclimatization. Later, meet your expedition team for a briefing on the wildlife experience, terrain and snow leopard tracking techniques.
Overnight in Leh.
Drive from Leh to Zingchen, the gateway to Hemis National Park. From here, trek through the spectacular Himalayan landscape towards Rumbak Valley.
Arrive at Rumbak and settle into your lodge, homestay or camp. Meet the local trackers and prepare for the days ahead in search of the elusive snow leopard.
Overnight in Rumbak.
Set out for your first full day of wildlife tracking in Rumbak Valley. Accompanied by expert local trackers, search the mountain slopes, rocky outcrops and ridgelines for signs of snow leopard activity.
Use spotting scopes to scan the landscape while looking for pugmarks and other signs of wildlife. Keep watch for blue sheep and Himalayan ibex, important prey species of the snow leopard.
Overnight in Rumbak.
Continue your search for the Ghost of the Mountains with a full day exploring Husing Valley and its surrounding slopes.
Your trackers will identify promising locations and scan the rugged terrain for movement. Winter offers an exceptional opportunity to search for snow leopards as they descend to lower elevations following their prey.

Keep the day flexible to respond to recent wildlife activity and sightings. Explore different valleys and tracking areas with your experienced trackers and naturalists.
The additional day provides more time to search for snow leopards while also enjoying the remarkable winter scenery and wildlife of Hemis National Park.

Enjoy a final morning wildlife excursion around Rumbak before trekking back to Zingchen.
Continue by road to Leh and check into your hotel. Spend the remainder of the day at leisure, relaxing after your mountain adventure.

Enjoy a relaxed cultural day in Ladakh. Visit the magnificent Thiksey Monastery, one of the region’s most impressive Buddhist monasteries, followed by Shey Palace, known for its spectacular setting and Buddhist heritage.
The day also serves as a valuable buffer in case weather or wildlife conditions require adjustments to the expedition schedule.
